Clint Eastwood convinced Charlie Sheen to go to rehab after family intervention led by Martin Sheen

Charlie Sheen's history with substance abuse dates back decades.

Sheen, 60, reflected on his addiction journey and the way his famous family organized an intervention in the early '90s in the new Netflix documentary, "aka Charlie Sheen."

The "Two and a Half Men" actor recalled receiving an invitation to celebrate his father Martin Sheen's 50th birthday, only to arrive for his own intervention, which included a pep talk from Clint Eastwood.

CHARLIE SHEEN FELT ‘RELIEF’ WHEN DIAGNOSED WITH HIV AFTER YEARS OF WILD, DRUG-FUELED CRAZINESS

"I get invited to my dad’s birthday party," Sheen said in the docuseries, per People magazine

"I think Mom called me: ‘Dad’s got things to do, so we have to do it early.’ She’s like, ‘We’re thinking 9:00.’ I’m like, ‘a.m.?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah.’"

The "Major League" actor remembered, "She brings me into the house, and I’m looking for balloons, a cake, funny hats … And as I come around the corner, I see the living room has this really expertly organized circle of people."

Sheen said the group was "a weird mix," and included his seventh-grade history teacher, yoga instructor, Rob Lowe, and his siblings.

His longtime friend, Sean Penn, did not participate. Penn said in the docuseries that he was "never involved with those interventions" due to his own personal struggles.

"I was not, you know, walking a perfect trail of my own in some regards," Penn said.

Sheen remembered staying mostly silent during the "emotional" day, where his friends and family read letters.

"There’s a lot to process," he said. "I’d kind of heard about these things, but never been this close to an intervention." Sheen requested time away from the group to think about going into treatment, but "they said, 'No. This is a decision we’ve made for you that has to happen today.'"

He added, "I was figuring, ‘If I just agree to this, just to get out of this situation, I can probably hatch a plan somewhere away from here.'"

Sheen was deep in thought on ways to avoid getting treatment until his dad walked out of his office and said, "There’s someone on the phone who wants to talk to you."

The "Platoon" star took the phone expecting a family member, and knew exactly who he was speaking to the second he heard the tone.

"It’s a very recognizable, very globally familiar voice," he said. "It’s Clint."

He added, "[Clint] said something like, ‘You’ve got to get the train back on the tracks, kid … You’re worth saving.' It was really powerful. I thanked him, gave the phone back to Dad and said, 'All right, let’s go.'"

Sheen finally got clean in 2017. "You have to be willing," he told People magazine. "I keep a [mental list] of the worst, most shameful things I’ve done, and I can look at that in my head if I feel like having a drink."

Dem crime policies crippling cities even in Red states as crackdown intensifies, White House warns

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt warned that left-wing policies such as cashless bail have sparked violent crime trends in cities nationwide, including Democrat-run cities located in Republican-run states.

"There is crime in all states, but the crime in these cities is all in cities that are run by Democrats. If you look at the list of the top 20 high-crime cities in the United States, every single one — with the exception of one in Louisiana — is run by a Democrat. And these Democrats have supported the same policies that I spoke about at the beginning of this briefing, like cashless bail," Leavitt said.

The press secretary was responding to a question on whether the administration would also work with Republican governors to address cities rocked by crime, instead of focusing on Democrat-run jurisdictions in blue states. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened crime crackdowns in Chicago and Baltimore, which are located in Democratic states, while crime-riddled cities such as Memphis, which is located in Republican Tennessee, have not received the same level of attention for its crime trends.

Leavitt argued that current violent crime trends are due to left-wing justice policies that affect cities no matter if they are in a Republican or Democrat state, pointing to Jackson, Mississippi, and Birmingham, Alabama, as examples.

DEM GOVERNORS SUDDENLY CRACK DOWN ON CRIME AS TRUMP’S NATIONAL GUARD THREATS LOOM

"If you look at a red state, Mississippi, but a Democrat-run city in that state — Jackson. In 2019, Jackson, Mississippi, eliminated cash bail for virtually all misdemeanor cases. And while Jackson is not formally a sanctuary city, the state of Mississippi formally banned sanctuary cities, and this city has acted as a de facto sanctuary city for criminals and illegal aliens since 2017," she said.

WHITE HOUSE SLAMS PRITZKER, BLUE CITIES AS CRIME FIGHT ESCALATES: 'DECLINE IS A CHOICE'

"Same thing: Birmingham, Alabama. A Democrat-run city in a red state in 2017, the Birmingham City Council unanimously passed a resolution, quote, committing to establish sanctuary policies. So, if you actually look at the facts from these Democrat-run cities, these are cities that are run by Democrats and by blue, by members of the Democrat Party. These are blue cities. And they have all supported these disastrous policies which allow repeated career criminals back onto the streets to further commit acts of violence."

CHICAGO RESTAURANT OWNER SLAMS CITY LEADERSHIP OVER CRIME: 'WE WANT LAW AND ORDER'

Trump's presidential campaign included repeated vows to bring crime down across the U.S. following the nation's bloody trends that began in 2020 amid the defund the police protests and riots that summer. On Aug. 11, he federalized Washington, D.C., under Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, part of his campaign vow, which allows the president to assume emergency control of the capital's police force for 30 days.

After homicides have dropped and more than 2,000 arrests, Trump has celebrated the D.C. crime crackdown as an example for other cities and has since repeatedly floated sending the National Guard into cities such as Chicago. Local leaders, including Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, have shunned such talk as unnecessary and a form of "authoritarianism."

"The president wants to work with anyone across this country who wants to end these horrible policies and to bring law and order to our streets. And I think that is proven by his tremendous cooperation with the mayor of Washington, D.C., and our nation's capital. And just look at the results of that," Leavitt continued.

Schumer-linked PAC accuses senator of stock 'greed,' but financial disclosure contradicts claim

FIRST ON FOX: Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is pushing against a pair of ads from a group linked to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., that suggests she has enriched herself with stocks over her nearly three decades in Washington.

The Majority Forward PAC, a political action committee that is affiliated with the Schumer-linked Senate Majority PAC, launched a $700,000 ad campaign against Collins, who is eyeing a bid for a sixth term in the Senate, but has yet to officially launch her campaign.

The pair of ads, one a 30-second spot titled "Greed," the other a 15-second spot titled "This Life," target Collins for her opposition to a congressional stock trading ban by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo. However, her office argued that through images of private jets and Collins in glamorous attire, the ads suggested that she has personally enriched herself through trades while working as a lawmaker.

SUSAN COLLINS HECKLED AT MAINE RIBBON-CUTTING TO DELIGHT OF LEFTIST CHALLENGER AS PIVOTAL SENATE RACE HEATS UP

The ads accuse Collins of "the worst kind of greed; using insider information to trade stocks."

"She’s opposing a bipartisan bill that would ban members of Congress from trading stocks," the narrator said. "Our representatives should be serving the people of Maine, not lining their own pockets."

While Collins does not directly own any stocks, according to disclosure filings, her husband Tom Daffron does. However, a trade has not been made since last year, and her office argued that Daffron’s holdings are made by a third-party advisor.

TRADING BLOWS: TRUMP AND HAWLEY MAKE UP, BUT GOP ANGER CONTINUES OVER STOCK TRADE BAN

"Senator Collins has never bought, sold, or owned any shares of stock during her entire Senate tenure," her office told Fox News Digital. "Tom Daffron’s investment decisions are made exclusively by a third-party advisor without his consultation. No individual stocks have been bought or sold from his account in almost three years."

Majority Forward spokesperson Lauren French fired back in a statement to Fox News Digital that the ads go after Collins "for her refusal to support a stock trading ban for members of Congress and their families — bipartisan legislation that 95 percent of Mainers support."

"Nowhere in the ad does it say Senator Collins regularly buys, sells, or owns stocks (though her husband does) — but if she is still confused, we'll be happy to continue airing it throughout Maine so both she and her constituents can understand how her opposition to ending stock trading is enabling her colleagues to benefit from their positions of power," French said.

'MAINE'S MAMDANI': MAINE GOP CHIEF ISSUES WARNING ABOUT NEW CHALLENGER LOOKING TO OUST SUSAN COLLINS

Senate Democrats are hoping that their prized candidate, Gov. Janet Mills, D-Maine, jumps into the race to take on Collins. However, Mills, who is term-limited, has not made an official announcement on her plans and the Democratic primary has fast become crowded.

Collins told the Bangor Daily News that she did not support Hawley’s bill last month, and instead argued that there should be more enforcement of already existing rules that bar members from insider trading.

The White House similarly panned the bill, which would has included a carve out for both President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, and all Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Accountability Committee, except for Hawley, voted against the bill. Collins is not a member of that committee.

However, Trump has since warmed to the idea of a congressional stock trading ban, and lauded the push by Rep. Anna Paulina, R-Fla., as a "MASSIVE WIN" on Truth Social.

Four hikers on psychedelic mushrooms rescued in popular mountain destination

Four hikers who admitted to taking psychedelic mushrooms were rescued in New York’s Catskill Mountains after becoming disoriented and straying off the trail, officials said. It's the second such case this year in New York's popular mountain areas.

The group called for help around 5 p.m. on Aug. 29 when one member suffered a "debilitating high," according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

Forest rangers and the Pine Hill Fire Department located the group at about 6:45 p.m. – less than 1,000 feet from the marked trail.

CRIES FOR HELP LEAD RESCUERS TO INJURED HIKER AFTER TERRIFYING 25-FOOT PLUNGE AT POPULAR WATERFALL

The four men are in their 20s and one hiker was in the fetal position and unable to communicate, according to the New York Times

One hiker was hallucinating about a bridge that did not exist, Forest Ranger Russell Martin told Fox News Digital.

Psychedelic mushrooms, also known as "magic mushrooms," contain psilocybin, a hallucinogen that alters brain chemistry and can trigger vivid hallucinations, a warped sense of time, and rapid mood swings. Psilocybin mushrooms are illegal in New York.

"This was treacherous, steep Catskill terrain and when people intentionally get high like this, it reduces their ability to make good decisions," Russell said. "Mushrooms are illegal, but whether you’re using marijuana or alcohol, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re with at least one responsible person who is not partaking."

The men were hiking in the Giant Ledge area of the Slide Mountain Wilderness, about 80 miles southwest of Albany and one of the Catskills’ most popular trail destinations, offering sweeping views of Panther and Slide Mountains from a series of sheer rock outcrops. The ledges rise to about 3,200 feet, with hikers climbing roughly 1,200 feet from the trailhead to reach the overlook.

DANGEROUS TRAIL LEAVES HIKERS STRANDED OVERNIGHT ON MAINE'S HIGHEST MOUNTAIN

The men had strayed about 1,000 feet off the trail, according to the New York Times.

Once rangers and firefighters located the men, they guided the group back to the trailhead, where they were evaluated. Officials said none of the men required hospitalization and rangers later drove them back to their rental lodging.

Somewhere along the way, the hikers also lost their car keys, officials said. The following day, one of the rangers hiked back up and found a sling bag with the keys under a log in tall ferns.

In May, two hikers in the Adirondack Mountains – in the northeastern part of New York state near Lake Placid – called authorities to report that a member of their hiking party had died. It turned out they had taken hallucinogenic mushrooms and were mistaken.

The hiker who was believed to be dead called and was not injured. A ranger escorted the two hikers down to an ambulance, which took them to a hospital and brought the third to the group’s campsite, where they all later met up, officials said.

The two hikers who called 911 also told a steward on the mountain’s summit that they were lost. The steward "determined the hikers were in an altered mental state," according to the DEC.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Obamacare expansion faces pro-life push to block abortion funding through subsidies

Nearly 100 pro-life groups are urging Congress to ensure that if they choose to extend subsidies in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) they need to also include specific provisions ensuring that those subsidies do not get used to pay for elective abortions.

The letter, spearheaded by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (formerly Susan B. Anthony List), argues that pro-choice Democrats "craftily" authored the ACA to avoid protections from the Hyde Amendment, passed in the late 70s to prevent tax dollars from going toward elective abortions. Coverage for elective abortions through ACA insurance plans, the letter says, comes from cost-sharing reduction payments and premium tax credits set to expire at the end of the year.

Under Republicans' "one big, beautiful" spending package passed in early July, federal Medicaid payments were prohibited to entities that provided abortions beyond the Hyde Amendment’s exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother. But, according to the 88 different pro-life groups who signed the SBA’s letter to Congress, that progress could be lost if Americans become compelled to pay for abortion services through the ACA, also known as "Obamacare."

BIDEN-ERA POLICY INDIRECTLY PAYING FOR UNACCOMPANIED MINORS' ABORTIONS RESCINDED BY TRUMP DOJ

"The American people clearly don’t want to be in the business of subsidizing the violence of abortion," SBA President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. "Sixty percent of voters, including Democrats, pro-choice voters, and the majority of independents, oppose taxpayer funding of abortion."

When the ACA was written, a provision of the landmark health legislation, Section 1303, sought to prohibit any federal funds from going towards non-Hyde exempt abortions. The ACA provision requires any ACA health insurers that provide elective abortion coverage to collect a separate private payment from enrollees for such coverage, to ensure that it is not being covered by federal funds.

However, subsequent Obama-era guidance allowed the separate abortion premium payments to be consolidated into a single transaction with payments for non-abortion coverage, effectively removing any distinction between abortion-related coverage payments and non-abortion related coverage payments.

Republicans and pro-life advocates have argued that this move has led to taxpayer funds being commingled with the separate private funds meant for abortion coverage, which, in turn, indirectly funds elective abortions. They also argue it obscures information from pro-life consumers who may not want to be party to a health insurance plan that provides funding for abortion.

DEMOCRATS SEEK TO ABOLISH ANTI-ABORTION HYDE AMENDMENT – BUT HOW FAR ARE THEY WILLING TO GO?

In 2014, the Government Accountability Project (GAO) examined compliance with Section 1303 of the ACA among a sample of 18 insurance companies that provide coverage for non-Hyde exempt abortions. While the analysis found no evidence of federal funds being used directly for abortions, not a single one of the 18 insurers it looked into was fully complying with the ACA’s mandate to collect a separate payment specifically for abortion coverage.

Nationwide, the GAO found that 1,036 Qualified Health Plans that covered non-Hyde exempt abortions, most of them had highly subsidized enrollment rates around the 87% average that encompasses all ACA health plans.

During President Donald Trump’s first term, he attempted to mandate stricter separate transaction requirements, but they were ultimately repealed under Biden.

"We just defunded Big Abortion, but our progress is lost if Americans are forced to fund abortion on demand through Obamacare. Obamacare was the largest ever expansion of taxpayer-funded abortion since Roe v. Wade, subsidizing insurance plans that cover elective abortion. As if that wasn’t enough, Biden significantly expanded Obamacare as a form COVID-19 relief, which in turn vastly expanded taxpayer funding for abortion through Obamacare," Dannenfelser said. ""This pro-life Congress must not further extend Obama and Biden’s legacy of taxpayer- funded subsidies that end the lives of countless unborn children."

Fox News Digital reached out to numerous pro-choice groups for their take on the letter calling for Hyde-specific protections for any ACA expansion.

Liz McCaman Taylor, senior federal policy counsel at the Center for Reproductive Rights, said the letter from the coalition of 88 pro-life groups serves "to push abortion services even further out of reach, including in states where abortion is legal."

"The reality is that people already have extremely limited access to abortion care through the Affordable Care Act," McCaman argued.

"This is an attempt to dictate states' decisions about what benefits they can and cannot offer their citizens," McCaman said. "Anti-abortion advocates' claims to 'leave abortion up to the states' were clearly a lie."
